The concept for this ballet began with Brent Umphlett’s awe-inspiring journal photography, documenting a three-month adventure and trek through the Rocky Mountains. During his journey, he exposed himself to the awe and dangers of nature, departing in Canada and concluding in Mexico.

Stephen Wynne, Artistic Director of NWA Ballet Theatre, and Lendell Black, Emmy-winning composer/arranger, collaborate to develop this libretto, as an atlas to cultivate both the musical composition and the choreography. Focusing on bringing the nuance, emotion, and majesty of Brent’s journey to the stage and life, this ballet highlights his images alongside the dance. The NWA Ballet Theatre performing artists will powerfully and skillfully dance this work in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Faulkner Performing Arts Center.

The entire length of this two-act ballet, entitled Exposed: a Ballet on the Trail, can be seen May 3, 2025, at the Faulkner Performing Arts Center. The second performance of this work will take place May 9, at The Auditorium in Eureka Springs.
